Graduate Assistant – Cross-Country/Track & Field

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant – Cross-Country / Track & Field. This role offers a unique opportunity for recent college graduates interested in a career in intercollegiate athletics to gain hands-on experience. The assistant will support all aspects of the Cross-Country and Track & Field programs, including daily operations and coaching responsibilities. Reporting directly to the Head Coach, this position is integral to our NCAA Division II athletic program. While every effort has been made to make this job description comprehensive, it does not encompass all duties that may be assigned.

This position covers 50% tuition in qualifying academic programs and provides an hourly wage. The listed duties are not exhaustive and may include related tasks as needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist with planning and executing practices, training sessions, and team meetings.
• Provide coaching support for specific event groups within Cross-Country and/or Track & Field (e.g., distance, sprints, jumps, throws).
• Support program operations, including equipment management, travel arrangements, and meet preparations.
• Participate in recruiting prospective student-athletes through evaluations, communication, and campus visits.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as NCAA compliance, academic monitoring, and budget tracking.
• Foster a team environment that promotes athletic, academic, and personal excellence.
• Help organize home meets and special team events.
• Represent Augustana University professionally at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a college Cross-Country/Track & Field program.
• Proficiency in Google Platform.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Creative self-starter with diplomacy, tact, and confidentiality.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends typical in collegiate athletics.
• Strict adherence to NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Former student-athlete.
• Acceptance into an Augustana graduate program.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Respect for diversity and an appreciation of academic values and culture.
