Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide front‑desk coverage: answer phone calls, emails, and walk‑in inquiries; alert assistant/associate deans of visitors for meetings and create and oversee the front‑desk work schedule for undergraduate student workers.
  • Assist in scheduling CLAS committee and subcommittee meetings and attend meetings to take minutes when possible.
  • Research academic integrity policies and procedures at peer institutions to consider possible amendments to the CLAS academic integrity education program components.
  • Perform research tasks associated with Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and virtual exchanges with universities abroad – identifying funding opportunities, grants, and training for faculty.
  • Assist in a benchmarking project on globalization and internationalization for peer institutions, determining infrastructure and programming for international experiences.
  • Research data to compare global efforts in strategic plans for global programs and how institutions assess cultural agility.
  • Provide support to the assistant dean regarding syllabus archive reviews, outcomes assessment and program evaluations, and curriculum benchmarking.
  • Work with assistant/associate deans on new project roll‑outs – creating printed/web announcements, maintaining newsletter details, and updating relevant web content.
  • Oversee the creation of a One‑Stop "Who does what" flow chart of dean’s office functions and individuals to contact.
  • Build and maintain staff organization charts for all CLAS departments and programs.
  • Connect with the Office for Undergraduate Students by attending weekly update meetings; collaborate with OUS teams for shadowing opportunities of student advising appointments.
  • Support dean’s office staff with general operational support as needed.

Position Summary

The Graduate Assistant position works in the dean’s office to manage all front‑desk operations and provide support for the administrative functions of the assistant and associate deans of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Major tasks include researching comparative tasks overseen by assistant/associate deans at peer institutions, various benchmarking analyses, attending and assisting in the scheduling of committee meetings, and managing event calendars of interdisciplinary programs. The position will also support the office by providing front‑desk coverage while also overseeing the scheduling of the front desk, which includes the creation of the schedule and tracking the hours of the undergraduate student workers. This role offers the graduate student the opportunity to gain practical experience in the daily functions of a dean’s office.

Eligibility

Must be admitted to a graduate degree program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as a full‑time student.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest in higher education administration, public administration, human resource development, or communication. Strong communication and collaboration skills, and dedication to seeing tasks completed from start to finish.

Compensation

Wage Rate: $21,033 per academic year (equivalent to $1,107 biweekly).
