Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in State College, PA, seeks a motivated graduate student for an on-site (with project-based hybrid options) internship in the Advanced Manufacturing Process Development Department. The role focuses on additive manufacturing design, fabrication, and testing during fall/spring with potential summer expansion.

You will work up to 20 hours/week during academic terms and up to 40 hours/week in the summer.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering Design, or related field.
• Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, NX) and programming (MATLAB, Python) expected.
• Ability to work with additive manufacturing tools and systems; familiarity with research documentation.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to additive manufacturing design, fabrication, and testing.
• Develop and document Additive Manufacturing tools and processes.
• Execute prints, track fabrication progress, collect data, and summarize results.
• Prepare and present research findings through reports and presentations.
