General Responsibilities

Under the direction of the school principal, plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Create an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in various school-related settings. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet all students' needs. Maintain proper records and adhere to required procedures. Monitor the proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

Essential Functions
  • Design a program of study tailored to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Regularly meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and achievement of learning objectives.
  • Provide instruction that addresses the diverse needs of all students.
  • Prepare for classes and demonstrate evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum goals with clear objectives communicated to students.
  • Set learning objectives aligned with student needs and curriculum requirements.
  • Utilize effective instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques to motivate students.
  • Ensure safety precautions are followed to protect students and resources.
  • Keep accurate records as required by law and policy.
  • Implement policies on student conduct, develop classroom rules, and maintain order fairly.
  • Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours as needed.
  • Build respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Supervise teacher assistants and volunteers purposefully.
  • Evaluate personal effectiveness and strive for professional growth.
  • Participate in school management and share responsibility for the school program.
  • Attend meetings and serve on committees.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of VBCPS curriculum, instructional practices, and policies; understanding of teaching and learning processes; ability to incorporate multiple perspectives and multicultural education; proficiency in technology integration; effective communication skills; ability to collaborate with staff, students, and community.

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor's Degree in education or related field and eligibility for Virginia teaching license.

Physical Requirements

Must have sensory skills for communication and interaction; ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds rarely; adherence to work schedules; accommodations available for disabilities.

Special Requirements

Valid driver’s license; reliable attendance.
