General Responsibilities

Under the direction of the school principal, plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Create an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students to ensure success. Supervise students in various school settings, monitor and evaluate student outcomes, communicate with students, parents, staff, and community. Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet all students’ needs. Maintain records, follow procedures, and ensure proper use and care of equipment and facilities.

Essential Functions

• Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes regularly and on schedule.
• Create a classroom environment that promotes student involvement and achievement.
• Provide instruction that meets the needs of all students.
• Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation when requested.
• Establish clear learning objectives aligned with curriculum and student needs.
• Utilize instructional methods and resources that motivate students to achieve objectives.
• Ensure safety and proper use of all equipment and materials.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy.
• Implement policies and rules governing student conduct and develop classroom behavior rules.
• Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours as needed.
• Build respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
• Supervise teacher assistants and volunteers purposefully.
• Evaluate personal effectiveness and strive for professional growth.
• Participate in school management and share responsibility for the school program.
• Attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of VBCPS curriculum, instructional techniques, and policies; understanding of teaching and learning processes; ability to incorporate technology; effective communication skills; ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor's Degree in education and eligibility for Virginia teaching license.

Physical Requirements

Must have sensory skills for communication, able to sit, walk, stand, bend, lift up to 20 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds rarely. Reasonable accommodations available.

Special Requirements

Valid driver’s license and reliable attendance are essential.
