Grade 4 Teacher, Two Way Immersion (Spanish/English)

Amigos is a comprehensive Pre K–8 school located in the Cambridgeport neighborhood. Amigos welcomes students from diverse communities and cultural backgrounds. Two-way immersion develops high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies among students and contributes to the long-term preparation of students for the global economy. Bringing culturally diverse students together in situations in which each has equal status spurs motivation and promotes cohesion, community building, and cooperation.

The Opportunity:

The Fourth Grade Two-Way teacher will provide students with instruction in Spanish and English in a self-contained classroom. The successful candidate will:

  1. Work cooperatively with grade-level, cluster, and whole-school teams of teachers, including specialists in the areas of ESL, SSL, and Special Education.
  2. Plan and implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population.
  3. Have experience planning, implementing, and adapting an ongoing curriculum, which is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks, as well as the local Cambridge Learning Expectations for fourth grade.
  4. Work collaboratively with parents and guardians to engage them in classroom activities and school-wide events.
  5. Be a thoughtful and reflective practitioner who demonstrates intellectual curiosity by asking insightful questions.
Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Fourth Grade Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university required, including coursework in first and second language acquisition.
  2. High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing.
  3. Familiarity with and appreciation of fourth-grade students, their needs, and interests.
  4. Creativity and passion for dual language and anti-racist teaching.
  5. Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  6. Required Massachusetts Certification in Foreign Language Certification 1-6 (Spanish), Elementary 1-6.
