Job description

Overview

The Grade 3 Machinist position is an overtime‑eligible senior craft role that reports to the Machine Shop Management team. The position is responsible for manufacturing parts that meet or exceed Charm Sciences standards of precision on all components manufactured in the machine shop. It is an A/R Class A Machinist. Pay ranges from $27.50 to $41.00 per hour, determined by education, experience, and other factors in accordance with applicable laws.

Essential Functions

• Set up and operate all manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision.
• Operate Proto‑Trak Millers and Lathe, Surface Grinder to fabricate tools, fixtures, and Charm Sciences products.
• Determine machining operations, tool selections, setups and develop processes and procedures using Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
• Keep accurate records of work performance, processes, and procedures: order of operations, tooling used for specific features, setup methods for each job.
• Inspect and document first‑piece, in‑process and final inspections; confirm other machinists' first pieces.
• Select and use all necessary measuring tools: conventional hand tools, gauge pins, calipers, micrometers, depth gauge, B&S Micro‑Hite 350.
• Work from drawings, sketches, or verbal and written instructions; demonstrate full knowledge of blueprint interpretation and GD&T.
• Operate various machine shop equipment such as saws, belt sanders, grinders, drill press, shear, brake, and other hand tools; use office equipment including computer.
• Effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and in written English.
• Operate PROTO‑TRAK or equivalent milling and lathe machines, program and operate CNC FAdal and HAAS VMC from the controller using G & M codes.
• Use BOBCAM software and SolidWorks for tool‑box design and manufacturing.
• Use Microsoft Office and Outlook for documentation.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent plus 10 or more years’ machining experience, or combination of experience and technical school training.
• Full proficiency with PROTO‑TRAK or equivalent milling and lathe machines.
• Thorough knowledge of tooling, fixtures, and machine setup to achieve quality precision machined components.
• Ability to determine the need for and fabricate jigs and tooling.
• Knowledge of SolidWorks, Microsoft Office, and Outlook.

Preferred

• Ability to program FAdal and HAAS VMC using CNC G & M codes.
• Experience with BOBCAM software.

Physical Requirements

• Dexterity to manipulate parts; ability to detect discrepancies by visual inspection.
• Ability to remain stationary for extended periods at bench or desk.
• Occasional movement around the machine shop and access to the main facility.
• Tolerance of a noisy production environment; able to lift up to 50 pounds when required.

Work Schedule

Work between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, and be available on some Saturdays as needed.
