Shift: 3rd (night shift)
FTE: 0.9 (Full-Time)
Summary
Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care. The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Using evidence-based practices, clinical decision making, and skilled communication, the therapist compassionately leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum, under the guidance of a licensed respiratory therapist in designated areas per site discretion.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive respiratory care, including administering procedures and modalities according to standards and policies, and leading efforts to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
- Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. Assist physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable.
- Administer medication treatments and therapies as prescribed by physicians or patient-driven protocols.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, ensuring proper functionality and identifying needs for service or repair.
- Educate and instruct patients on the purpose, technique, self-care, and disease management related to respiratory therapy.
- Collaborate with other departments to solve clinical problems and provide education on patient management.
- Adhere to policies and procedures across service areas, perform assigned tasks, and maintain performance standards.
- Promote a culture of safety by applying safety measures, reporting safety events, and assisting in corrective actions.
- Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, and interpreting patient data to meet individual needs.
Licensure, Registration, and Certifications
- Respiratory Therapist certification (CRT) from NBRC (must be obtained within 45 days).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from AHA.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from AHA (must be obtained within 0 months unless waived).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA (must be obtained within 0 months unless waived).
- Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) from NBRC (must be obtained within 0 months unless waived).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from AHA/AAP (must be obtained within 0 months unless waived).
- Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Specialist (NPS) from NBRC (must be obtained within 0 months unless waived).
Education
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
