ByteDance's Server platform team is seeking PhD interns to help architect and validate high-performance GPU/AI systems. You will work with top engineers to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge hardware infrastructure at scale.

The role focuses on benchmarking, bottleneck analysis, and SW-HW co-design to push performance while modeling total cost of ownership for AI workloads. Internship benefits include day-one health insurance and housing support where eligible.

Qualifications

• PhD candidate in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science focusing on GPU/AI platform architecture or performance optimization.
• Strong background in system architecture, GPU/AI SoC, interconnect, memory subsystems.
• Experience in GPU/AI system performance optimization or SW-HW co-design.
• Proficient in C/C++ and Python; understanding of virtualization and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop application benchmarks, tools and performance optimization methods for GPU/AI systems.
• Identify bottlenecks via data-driven studies; pursue SW-HW co-design options and drive implementation.
• Develop GPU/AI system TCO models based on benchmarks and performance.
• Collaborate with industry consortia and open standards to test emerging technologies.
• Coordinate with partners to set up POC/prototypes to evaluate new architectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop application benchmarks, tools and performance optimization method for GPU/AI system.
• Identify the system bottleneck/opportunity with deep system-level data-driven study, explore innovative options through SW-HW co-design, and lead them towards implementation.
• Develop GPU/AI system TCO model, based on application benchmark and performance optimization.
• Work with industry consortiums and open standard committees to investigate the emerging standards or technologies, and contribute our research results to the industry.
• Work with our technology partners and suppliers to setup POC or prototypes to evaluate and test the new technologies or architectural designs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related majors.
• Thesis in GPU/AI platform architecture and/or application performance optimization design or software hardware co-design.
• Deep understanding of computer system architecture, especially on GPU/AI SoC or Platform Architecture, Interconnect Fabric, and Memory sub-system.
• Experienced in GPU/AI system application performance optimization or software hardware co-design.
• Strong knowledge and proficiency in software development in C/C++, scripting languages such as Python.
• Understand the implementation of GPU/AI virtualization technology, deep learning architecture, and distributed system.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Hourly) - Campus Intern

The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $60- $60.

• Interns also receive 10 paid holidays per year and paid sick time (56 hours if hired in first half of year, 40 if hired in second half of year).
