Job summary

Knife River Corporation in Bryan, TX is seeking a motivated Grader Operator to safely operate grader equipment to spread and level dirt, gravel and stone according to grade specifications. This full-time role requires vigilance, strong safety awareness and the ability to work outdoors in all weather.

You will perform routine maintenance, monitor equipment, and coordinate with loading crews while complying with MSHA/OSHA/EPA regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience with GPS Blade Equipment.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance & operation.
  • Experience with heavy road construction work.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical.
  • Background/MVR checks as per Knife River-South policy.
  • Able to work overtime and be flexible with hours.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Safely perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) on equipment.
  • Maneuver equipment with signals from loading crew and ensure correct positioning.
  • Use equipment for grading, finishing, sloping, backfilling and stockpiling.
  • Operate on public roadways with awareness of surroundings.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance for smooth operation.
  • Troubleshoot issues and discuss production problems with coworkers/managers.
  • Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR safety and environmental compliance.
  • Perform other construction-related duties as required.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Responsible to safely operate grader to spread and level dirt, gravel and stone to grade specification.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)

  • Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) on equipment.
  • Maneuver heavy equipment into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that the vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
  • Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling.
  • Operate equipment on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one's surroundings.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
  • Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
  • Perform other construction related duties as required.
  • Timely and regular attendance is an essential requirement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)-Experience with GPS Blade Equipment.

  • Experience with equipment maintenance & operation.
  • Experience with heavy road construction work.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
  • Must meet Knife River-South employment standards with regards to background/MVR checks.
  • Must be able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (daytime/nighttime).
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons.
  • Must have a “safety first” attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required.
