Position Summary

The Janitor, under the direction of the Early Childhood Programs Manager and Health Coordinator, is responsible for performing a wide variety of janitorial services and tasks.

Essential Functions

• Perform housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, moving furniture, window washing, etc.
• Maintain building carpets using carpet extraction equipment including pre-spotters, detergent, and biohazard kits as required.
• Maintain inventory of supplies needed to complete tasks and submit requests for supplies as needed to ensure supplies are well stocked and available.
• Report obvious facility maintenance requirements to the department lead/supervisor.
• Perform minor groundskeeping duties when needed, including snow and ice removal and cleaning of walkways.
• Collect and dispose of trash and materials.
• Clean upholstery, handle fire and smoke cleanup, and water-damaged flooring and furniture.

Additional Responsibilities

• Evacuate children during emergency and monthly drills.
• Follow OSHA and Tribal policies and procedures at all times.
• Maintain MSDS sheet updates.
• Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
• Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This position involves heavy physical activity, including lifting up to 100 pounds and frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. It requires constant use of senses such as hearing, smell, and vision, and frequent standing, walking, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and manual handling. Occasional sitting and crawling are also required. Working conditions may include exposure to weather, extreme temperatures, humidity, and noise. Potential hazards include moving mechanical parts, electric shock, chemicals, infectious exposure, needles, and pesticides. Must obtain an annual TB test and be in good physical health as determined by a physician. Protective equipment will be provided.

Requirements

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: Minimum of two years janitorial experience required.
• Certification/License: Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 1 year of hire, pass a background check, and complete pre-employment drug testing.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of OSHA standards, infection control, biohazard, and fire extinguisher use preferred. Ability to operate cleaning equipment, follow strict cleaning guidelines, and communicate effectively. Native American preference.
