If so, we invite you to apply for the Governance Operations Coordinator position at ASA.

What Will You Do in This Role?

The Governance Operations Coordinator is a key support role at the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), focused on maintaining strong governance operations while driving improvements in efficiency, coordination, and process. This position serves as the operational backbone for ASA’s Board of Governors, core committees, and CEO scheduling, ensuring that our governance work runs smoothly and is well-documented.

Who Will Excel in This Role?

Coupled with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, you will be successful in this role if you are a critical thinker who can anticipate what is ahead. Prior experience working within association governance is strongly preferred. You should be a team player who is flexible, patient and self-directed with impeccable project management skills. You should also have a strong knack for technology with the ability manage multiple platforms and systems with confidence.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Help streamline internal processes for improved efficiency.
  • Help standardize and modernize documentation, workflows, and coordination.
  • Foster positive relationships with board members, committee members, volunteers, and other key partners.

The Details

This is a hands-on position with both strategic exposure and tactical responsibilities, from managing board meetings logistics and elections to coordinating CEO scheduling and key governance workflows.While some functions remain traditional, ASA is committed to modernizing its governance infrastructure, and we welcome candidates who are excited to help shape that evolution.

Board of Governors Operations

  • Coordinate logistics and materials for all Board of Governors meetings (virtual and in-person).
  • Prepare and distribute agendas, minutes, and board packets
  • Manage follow-up on all board actions.
  • Provide logistical support for in-person meetings (hotel, catering, room setup, etc.).
  • Maintain the Society’s official records, resolutions, and governing documents.
  • Process and approve expense reports based on ASA’s Travel Reimbursement Policy.

Governance Process and Committee Support

  • Act as a liaison to several governance committees (Ethics, Nominations & Awards, Constitution & Bylaws, Elections), supporting their meeting planning, documentation, and compliance tasks.
  • Support elections process for ASA leadership and constitutional amendments.
  • Foster positive relationships with board members, members, sponsors, and other key partners.
  • Maintain accurate rosters and records for ASA officers and committees.
  • Assist with additional committee coordination and logistics as needed.

Administration & CEO Support

  • Manage the CEO’s calendar, appointments and travel logistics.
  • Prepare and edit correspondence, reports, presentations and other documents.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Assist with special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Although this position is primarily remote, candidates are required to reside in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and be available to work onsite at our Herndon, VA office as needed (approximately 1 - 2 times per month)
  • College degree in related field
  • At least 5+ years of progressive work experience
  • 2-3 years experience in association governance or as an executive assistant in the association space is highly desirable
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Must be resourceful and able to conduct research and meet deadlines independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft products (MS Word, Excel, Outlook; PowerPoint, etc.) and should be comfortable learning and working in databases and web platforms
  • Experience with Adobe tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Professional phone manner and strong interpersonal skills
  • Discretion with confidential information is paramount
