Job summary

Google's Play Business Controller team seeks a senior financial leader to own and drive close processes, accounting guidance, and internal controls for the Play product area. You will partner with Finance, Product, and Engineering to design scalable systems and ensure policy-compliant operations globally.

You will influence cross-functional teams, manage risk, and lead initiatives to improve financial processes, with a focus on ASC 606 Revenue accounting in a multinational setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience.
• CPA or CA certification required.
• 10 years of accounting experience, or 8 with advanced degree.
• GAAP knowledge with ASC 606 in public accounting or multinational setting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month, quarter, and year-end closes and financial reporting.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on models, systems, and contracts to ensure optimal structures and workflows.
• Maintain risk management and internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Product, and Engineering to design scalable accounting systems and procedures.
• Lead controllership initiatives and automation for extended workforce accounting globally.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA).
• 10 years of experience in accounting or a related function, or 8 years with an advanced degree in accounting, business, or finance.
• Experience in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), with a focus on Revenue (ASC 606) Accounting in a public accounting or multinational company setting.

Preferred qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Experience with SQL and excellent analytical skills and ability to communicate effectively with executive management.
• Ability to have strong attention to detail, organizational skills and focus on continuous improvement.
• Ability to have a collaborative style and work with cross-functional and international teams.
• Ability to own projects and lead others (direct or indirect) to meet deadlines while maintaining quality of the work.

As a Play Business Controller, you will join the controllership team, and become a pivotal driver in supporting Games and Apps Business and responsible for managing financial risks across accounting, compliance, product launches, finance operations, and business systems. You will partner closely with the Finance, business, product and Engineering teams to drive business impact and support. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional and cross-product teams. In this role, you will be required to be a well-rounded leader with strong financial expertise and the ability to influence across Google.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $157000 - $227000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and execute month, quarter, and year-end close processes, journal entries, financial reporting, earnings, and external audit collaborations for the Play product area.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on business models, systems design, and contractual agreements (pre and post-sales) to ensure optimal agreementstructures and operational workflows.
• Establish, assess, and maintain effective risk management and internal control frameworks to ensure compliance and mitigate business risks.
• Partner with Financial Planning and Analysis, Product, and Engineering to design, implement, and support scalable accounting systems, procedures, and ad-hoc requests.
• Lead Controllership initiatives, UATs, and automation programs to centralize, streamline, scale, and manage extended workforce accounting operations globally.
