Position Summary

The Player Assistant / Starter is responsible for delivering an exceptional golf experience by ensuring the smooth flow of play, managing the first tee operation, and providing outstanding service to members and guests throughout the golf course. This position serves as an ambassador of The Boca Raton, maintaining pace of play, assisting golfers, and supporting daily golf operations while upholding the resort's luxury service standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Welcome members and guests at the first tee with a warm, professional, and personalized greeting.
• Manage the tee sheet and ensure groups begin play on schedule.
• Communicate course policies, local rules, and daily information to golfers before play.
• Monitor pace of play and assist groups in maintaining an enjoyable pace using professionalism and excellent guest service.
• Provide assistance to members and guests throughout the course, anticipating needs and resolving concerns promptly.
• Communicate with the Golf Shop and Outside Services team regarding tee times, course conditions, and operational updates.
• Set up and maintain the first tee, including scorecards, pencils, divot mix, towels, water, and other player amenities.
• Assist with tournament operations, outings, and special events.
• Maintain a visible presence on the golf course while promoting a positive member experience.
• Report course conditions, safety concerns, and guest feedback to Golf Management.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist with staging and outside service operations during peak periods.
• Support Golf Attendants with cart staging, practice facility setup, and guest arrivals when needed.
• Help with tournament setup, scoring, and event logistics.
• Restock golf operation supplies and first tee amenities.
• Assist in the Golf Shop or other Golf Operations areas as business demands require.
• Attend department meetings and participate in ongoing training.
• Perform additional duties assigned by Golf Management.
• Deliver genuine, personalized service consistent with The Boca Raton luxury standards.
• Communicate professionally and courteously with members, guests, and colleagues.
• Maintain a calm, confident, and solution-oriented approach in all situations.
• Present a polished, professional appearance at all times.
• Take ownership of responsibilities while working collaboratively with the Golf Operations team.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service and communication skills with a professional, outgoing personality.
• Working knowledge of golf etiquette, pace of play, and the game of golf.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
• Previous golf, country club, resort, or hospitality experience preferred.

Working Relationships

Internal: Director of Golf, Golf Professionals, Outside Services, Golf Shop Staff, Golf Maintenance, and Resort Operations.

External: Members, resort guests, tournament participants, and vendors.

Education/Experience Requirements

High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required

Physical Requirements

Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. It requires walking or standing to a significant degree, as well as reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
