Job summary

City of Victoria is seeking a Golf Maintenance Worker III to serve as a senior/lead operator on the golf course, performing highly skilled maintenance and specialized equipment operation. You will assist the Superintendent with daily operations, course setup, and projects while mentoring Level 1 and 2 staff.

  • Demonstrated successful performance at Level 2 or an equivalent combination of training and experience demonstrating Level 3 competencies
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and any required licenses/certifications applicable to assigned duties
  • Completes department-required advanced training and certifications applicable to golf-course equipment, turf management, chemical application, irrigation, or other assigned responsibilities
  • Demonstrates the ability to train others and lead assigned work without requiring formal supervisory authority

  • Assists with turf establishment and renovation projects including sod, seed, top dressing, aerification and related work
  • Assists with fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, and turf-treatment operations under supervision

Job description

Under general supervision, the Golf Maintenance Worker III serves as a senior/lead operator performing highly skilled golf-course maintenance, specialized equipment operation, troubleshooting, and work coordination. The employee performs the full range of Level 1 and Level 2 duties and assists the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent with daily operations, training, course setup, projects, and maintaining established course standards.

  • Performs all essential functions of Golf Operator I and Golf Operator II.
  • Serves as a lead Maintenance Worker for assigned work areas, mowing operations, projects, or daily assignments as directed by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Leads by example and assists with planning and sequencing daily golf-course maintenance assignments.
  • Trains and mentors Level 1 and Level 2 operators in safe operation, cleaning, inspection, adjustment, and routine maintenance of golf-course equipment.
  • Reads and interprets equipment operating and maintenance manuals and assists team members with equipment operation and routine trouble shooting.
  • Operates and assists with troubleshooting specialized reel mowers, greens equipment, tractors, loaders, utility vehicles, and other golf-course equipment.
  • Performs advanced turf-maintenance operations and assists supervisor in maintaining consistent mowing, grooming, and course-detail standards.
  • Assists with irrigation inspection, timing/control adjustments, troubleshooting, and authorized repair or replacement of components.
  • Assists with turf establishment and renovation projects including sod, seed, top dressing, aerification, Veri cutting, spiking, and related work.
  • Assists with fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, and turf-treatment operations in accordance with applicable training, licensing, safety requirements, and supervisory direction.
  • Performs or coordinates detailed bunker maintenance, hole changing, trimming, course setup, and special event/tournament preparation.
  • Assists with equipment readiness by identifying recurring maintenance issues, tracking needed repairs, and communicating priorities to supervisor.
  • May serve as the senior Maintenance Worker on duty and provide continuity of operations in the absence of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent with directed; does not assume supervisory authority unless specifically assigned.
  • Assists with evaluating equipment needs and identifying opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency, safety, and course conditions.
  • Assists with special projects and performs other related duties as required or assigned for business needs.

Work is performed outdoors and requires exposure to various weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, dangerous tools, equipment, machinery, and potential exposure to infections diseases. May be required to traverse uneven surfaces and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
