Responsibilities

• Operates mowers and trimmers to trim greens, aprons, tees, and around trees.

• Set tee markers and cups on greens daily.
• Maintain fuel and fluid levels daily; report equipment issues.
• Return equipment to maintenance facility and clean areas.
• Water and fertilize tees, greens, and fairways; spray under supervision.
• Mark the course for cart control weekly and replace barriers and signs.
• Assist in construction of new greens, tees, and fairways.
• Excavate trenches and help with irrigation repairs.
• May operate light equipment as needed.
• Perform other duties as directed.

Job description

The Golf Course Maintenance/Greenskeeper is responsible for performing routine manual labor in golf course maintenance, semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work, operating small hand-powered equipment, and occasionally performing work involving larger equipment such as tractors, loaders, and gang mowers.

The Successful Individual Must Possess

• Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction and maintenance work
• Working knowledge of, and ability to use, hand and power tools and equipment
• Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment
• Ability to follow oral and written directions
• Possession of a valid driver’s license

Job Functions

• Operates mowers and string trimmers to trim greens, aprons, tees, around trees, fence lines, banks, and hillsides; edges cart paths; rakes, edges, and maintains sand bunkers.
• Sets tee markers and cups on greens daily; maintains ball washers; replaces tee and towel flags when needed; removes debris; sands and seeds tee and drop area divots; and cleans flower beds.
• Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis; reports equipment problems or failures to the Equipment Manager immediately.
• Returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility and cleans the maintenance areas.
• Waters and fertilizes tees, greens, and fairways and, under the direct supervision of a certified applicator, sprays chemicals on designated areas.
• Under the direction of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, marks the course for cart control weekly; moves cart control barriers; replaces worn or lost ropes and signs; and may mark hazard and drop areas.
• Helps with project work; assists in the construction of new greens, tees, and fairways; grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds tees, greens, and fairways.
• Excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools; assists with repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems.
• May be asked to operate mowers, dump trucks, or other light equipment.
• Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
