Job summary

The City of Burnet is seeking a non-supervisory Golf Course Maintenance worker to perform maintenance of the golf course and facilities. You will operate and direct a range of heavy equipment, and help care for turf, irrigation, and related structures.

Responsibilities include mowing, edging, seeding, irrigation work, and basic repairs to plumbing, carpentry, and landscaping. Candidate must be able to lift heavy weights and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

This is a non-supervisory position engaged in construction, repair, or maintenance of golf course and facilities. Duties include operating and directing the operation of various types of heavy equipment, facilitating directives for the care of golf course, equipment and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs duties such as mowing, weed eating, edging, seeding, fertilizing, aerating, and applying pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.
• Plants turf, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Prunes trees and disposes of large branches.
• Weed eats around fence lines, tee boxes, and sand bunkers.
• Maintains and cleans sand bunkers.
• Inspects, washes and maintains ball washers, drinking fountains, cleans bathrooms and replenishes supplies.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems and the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads.
• Assists with basic plumbing, carpentry, landscaping and painting work.
• Assists in the construction of new facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and planting work.
• Conducts visual inspections of golf course turf and trees to determine corrective action necessary to alleviate any problems.
• Performs routine cleaning and maintenance for assigned equipment. Operates various types of mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, hand tools, sprayers, sod cutters, chain saws, sprayers, trencher, a cement mixer and other equipment as needed.
• May operates heavy equipment. Operates tractors of various sizes and weight in loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment and supplies.
• During winter months, performs preventative maintenance on golf course facilities and equipment as needed.
• Perform manual labor including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending and twisting;
• May assist in other sections of the department as necessary; and
• Perform other such duties as may be assigned.
• Demonstrate high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity.
• Regular and punctual attendance is required.

• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations that are applicable to position duties.
• Experience and knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in golf course turf irrigation maintenance and landscaping, construction, and related facility maintenance duties.
• Experience and knowledge of basic water hydraulics, turf, soil and tree water requirements.
• Experience and knowledge ofpesticides/herbicide sprays used in the control of common insects, rodents and weed pests.
• Experience and knowledge ofcarpentry, plumbing, and painting practices.
• Understand the dynamics of landscape irrigation systems.
• Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City personnel and the public.
• Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Landscape or Golf Course Maintenance preferred but not required.
• Valid Texas driver's license with a driving record meeting policy standard.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screenings and background check
• Ability to work weekends, holidays and after hours (scheduled and non-scheduled)

This position will be required to report to work in emergency situations. Work is performed at outdoor work sites. City approved safety shoes must be worn. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.The noise level is the work environment is usually loud.
