Job summary

Furman University in Greenville, SC, seeks a Groundskeeper to maintain the golf course and surrounding grounds, including lawns, bunkers, shrubs, and beds, ensuring clean, safe and attractive facilities for students and guests.

The position entails operating mowing and irrigation equipment, applying fertilizers and pesticides, performing routine repairs, and coordinating with supervisors to meet course maintenance schedules.

Qualifications

High School graduate with 1 - 2 years experience in related field.
Ability to read and understand instructions for the use of machinery and chemicals.
Ability to calculate the amount of material needed/used for a task.
Valid South Carolina drivers license required.
Experience in the operations of grounds tools/equipment.

Responsibilities

Mowing using fairway mowers, tee mowers, approach and fringe mowers, greens mowers, trim mowers, and gang mowers.
Operating weed eaters, edgers, clippers, power pruners.
Operating spreaders, tillers, and other implements.
Watering grass using irrigation system, dragging hoses, sprinklers, etc.
Aerifying, removing cores mechanically or by hand.
Top-dressing mechanically or by hand.
Picking up litter, limbs, dead animals, etc.
Spraying pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides).
Applying fertilizers (granular and liquid).
Cleaning up leaves using sweepers, blowers, vacuums, hand rakes, backpack blowers.
Changing holes on course and practice greens and changing teemarkers.
Monitoring frost and making decisions for allowing golf carts out as assigned.
