Sand Valley and 21 Golf Club are offering a two-facility internship for emerging agronomy professionals. The Assistant in Training program combines hands-on daily operations with direct mentorship across Sand Valley in Nekoosa, WI and 21 Golf Club in Aiken, SC.

Phase 1 at Sand Valley emphasizes daily maintenance, planning, staffing, and equipment operations while Phase 2 at 21 Golf Club expands to daily course/facility management, budgeting, and advanced agronomy tasks in a private club setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required
• Certificate, Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree or enrollment in turfgrass or related program preferred
• Previous golf course maintenance experience preferred
• Strong interest in a long-term career in golf course management
• Knowledge of agronomy, irrigation, and course maintenance or a desire to learn
• Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures
• General understanding of motorized golf course equipment
• Professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethic
• Playing knowledge of golf is a plus

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily planning, staffing schedules, and maintenance execution
• Perform course setup, mowing, rolling, bunker care, and irrigation operation
• Train and supervise seasonal team members with focus on quality and safety
• Support irrigation, drainage, water management, and turf health programs
• Assist with fertilizer, aeration, and integrated pest management applications
• Participate in course construction, renovation, and specialty maintenance projects
• Assist with equipment operation, maintenance, and preventative care
• Support purchasing, inventory management, and operational recordkeeping
• Serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during absences as assigned
• Aid Director of Agronomy at Phase 2 with daily course and facility management
• Assist with crew scheduling, procedures, and daily setup
• Help with irrigation scheduling and system adjustments to improve water efficiency
• Apply BMPs to meet conditioning and detail standards
• Coordinate with Equipment Manager on mowing schedules and tournaments
• Assist with construction projects, renovations, and special initiatives
• Maintain chemical, fertilizer, and application records
• Participate in budgeting discussions and planning
• Demonstrate initiative through on-the-job learning
