GMS Assistant Football Coach

GARRARD COUNTY SCHOOLS

CLASS TITLE: ASSISTANT COACH

EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

APPROVED: February 23, 2021 Order #2021-148

BASIC FUNCTION:

Assist coaches in various secondary school athletic programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist coaches in daily and long-range athletic activities.
  2. Assist coaches in planning the athletic program.
  3. Conduct learning experiences, under the direction of the head coaches, with small groups of student athletes.
  4. Assist coaches in guiding participants toward a harmonious team spirit.
  5. Assist in providing escort assistance, and supervision to athletes during periods of team travel.
  6. Recommend to the head coach the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety, and welfare of student athletes.
  7. Perform other non-coaching duties assigned by the principal, athletic director, or head coach.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  1. Fundamentals of various sports.
  2. Health and safety regulations.
  3. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

ABILITY TO:

  1. Assist coaches on one or more sports.
  2. Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  3. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  4. Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Successful completion of coaching certification, criminal record check, and current certification in first aid and CPR.
