We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a Utility & Energy Market Business Development Manager – West & Midwest.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading business development with strategic utilities and energy market aggregators to develop new utility or energy market programs and facilitate participation in existing utility or market programs, capturing value from GM electric vehicles, GM Energy V2X products, and GM Energy stationary storage products. You will work cross-functionally with various internal stakeholder groups, including Product, Sales, Delivery, PMO, Marketing, Legal, and Policy to establish and drive business development initiatives that reduce the total cost of ownership for GM electric vehicles, GM Energy V2X, or stationary storage products, and advance energy markets for these products. You will also work externally with utility stakeholders at all levels, energy market partners, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to influence the direction of V2X and energy programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead business development, scoping, and contracting activities with strategic utility and energy market aggregator partners for managed charging, V2X, and energy storage programs.
  • Establish strategic relationships with utilities in the Midwest and West regions, including alignment with all levels of the organization, and facilitate regular meetings between GM leadership and utility executives to define and drive mutually beneficial strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with utilities to define next-generation V2X and distributed energy resource programs, making enrollment and participation seamless for GM customers and reducing total cost of ownership.
  • Test and define new business models for GM and utilities to enable broader adoption and full value capture of V2X and distributed energy resources.
  • Manage strategic partnerships with energy market aggregators to enable market access for GM customers.
  • Partner with vehicle and product engineering teams to lead GM’s vehicle-to-grid strategy, testing, rollout, and utility collaboration efforts on V2G.
  • Participate in policy organizations, forums, and consortiums such as ATE, VGIC, VP3, NARUC, and PLMA to promote market adoption of vehicle-grid integration initiatives, supporting sales and revenue growth.
  • Research and analyze energy market trends, evaluate opportunities, and develop benchmarks to inform strategies for broad customer access to GM Energy’s products and services.
  • Develop and socialize recommendations for V2X and energy storage initiatives to improve GM Energy’s offerings.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in electric vehicle charging, environmental analysis, energy management, business, engineering, public policy, or related fields.
  • Experience working within a utility, especially in renewable energy or virtual power plant offerings, or proven business development experience with utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of energy markets, utility programs, and market development related to GM Energy’s chargers, V2X systems, and residential energy storage.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including executives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize, analyze options, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of electric vehicle charging technology, distributed energy resources, energy efficiency, and renewable energy technologies is preferred.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% within the United States.

Compensation: The salary range is estimated at $89,700 - $143,300, depending on experience and other factors. Additional benefits include bonus potential, health and wellbeing programs, retirement plans, tuition assistance, and vehicle discounts.

Note: Only applicants who do not require sponsorship to work in the U.S. now or in the future should apply. This role is not eligible for relocation benefits.
