Job summary

Blackboard is seeking a Vice President of Software Engineering to set strategy, vision, and direction for its global software engineering organization and lead it through the next evolution of Blackboard.

This leader will define an operating system for how the company builds software, establish engineering-wide standards, and drive AI-enabled transformation to deliver more value for customers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of related software engineering leadership, or 10 years with a Master’s, or 8 years with a PhD, plus experience leading leaders of managers.
• Led a large, multi-layered software engineering organization through Directors and Senior Directors, transforming effectiveness.
• Defined strategy for AI adoption and automation to build and deploy software globally.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering across the core Blackboard Learn platform, including long-term technical direction, reliability, and quality.
• Define and drive a transformation, including AI adoption and automation, across software engineering.
• Partner with CTO and leaders across Product Management, Design, Security, Cloud Operations, and the business.
• Lead a global, multi-layered organization through Senior Directors, Directors, and Managers; develop leadership bench.
• Own the engineering budget, headcount, tooling, and cost decisions.
• Ensure ISO 27001, SOC 2, FedRAMP, GovRAMP compliance and coordinate with Security and auditors.
