Job summary

The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust in New York City seeks an Associate Program Officer to support a Global Access grant portfolio within the Type 1 Diabetes Program.

The APO will assist in reviewing proposals, due diligence, grant recommendations, and monitoring across LMICs, with travel for grantee meetings and conferences. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public health, public administration, or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in global health, nonprofit work, research, or grantmaking.
  • Experience working in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently under shifting deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication across different levels inside and outside the foundation.
  • Strong diplomacy and interpersonal skills across multicultural, virtual environments.
  • Collaborative, discreet, tactful team player with sound judgment.
  • Desirable: experience with Type 1 Diabetes or noncommunicable disease policy.

Responsibilities

  • Support grantmaking: source potential projects, assist applicants to prepare proposals and budgets, and analyze proposals for review.
  • Track grant progress, ensure timely reporting and payments, and respond to grant-related questions.
  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative data, monitor field trends, and inform strategy and external materials.
  • Build relationships with researchers, civil society, private sector, ministries of health, and multilateral partners.
  • Organize, attend, and report on internal and grantee meetings; prepare materials for senior stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support with the T1D Program's administrative team.
