Position Highlights

The Environmental Science department at the University of Arizona is looking for a Global Professor in Environmental Science, with expertise in teaching two existing courses entitled "Environmental Essentials (ENVS 210)" and "Careers in Environmental Science (ENVS 195)". This hire will be located at the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) Micro-campus B.S. program in Environmental Science in Yangling, China and be for one Chinese Academic semester starting at September 1, 2025 and end at January 20, 2026.

The University of Arizona's (UA) International Office and the Department of Environmental Science (ENVS) entered into an agreement with NWAFU to develop and offer a micro-campus B.S. degree program in Environmental Science at NWAFU that was initiated in September 2020.

This UA International micro-campus program is delivered by six UA faculty on the ground at NWAFU in Yangling. The program includes 60 units of coursework taught by UA Faculty (in English), providing the core Environmental Science curriculum. The remaining ca. 105 units (prerequisites, general education classes, and elective courses) are offered by NWAFU faculty. The program leads to a joint UA-NWAFU degree, including a B.S. in Environmental Science from UA.

It is located in Yangling, a town of 300,000 people, located 80 kilometers west of Xi'an, and connected by high-speed train to Xi'an, the oldest prefecture capital in China, home to 12 million people.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with UA and NWAFU faculty to teach courses in a program that leverages existing strengths on both campuses.
  • Teach ca. 9 units of environmental science coursework to NWAFU-based undergraduate students per semester.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Have earned a PhD in Environmental Science, or closely affiliated field by the start date of the hire.
  • Prior experience in STEM instruction, particularly in environmental science or a related field of study.
  • The ability to meet the specifications of the UA/NWAFU memorandum of understanding (i.e., prior teaching experience), and the conditions set forth by the Chinese Ministry of Education (i.e., candidates should be a native English speaker).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the design, development, and teaching of quality courses at the college/university.
  • Experience communicating in Mandarin.
  • Prior experience working overseas.
