Job description

Global Process Owner - Finance

Sofia, Bulgaria

About the team

If you're a finance professional who thinks in processes and speaks the language of data and systems, this role was built for you.

You’ll own the end-to-end accounting processes behind SumUp's core financial products: payments, banking, and lending. It's a role where finance meets technology and analytics — and where your ability to bridge these worlds will have a direct impact on how SumUp scales globally.

You’ll join the Finance Accounting & Controlling team in Sofia, part of a global finance function operating across Europe, the US, and Latin America. The FGL (Financial General Ledger) domain sits at the heart of SumUp's most significant financial flows, and the scope and impact of this role grows with our business.

This is an individual contributor role with significant cross-functional influence, reporting directly to the VP of Finance Operations.

What you'll do
  • Own the end-to-end design and continuous improvement of accounting processes for payments, banking, and lending
  • Work with large, complex datasets to identify process gaps, reconciliation issues, and automation opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with finance and business stakeholders to ensure accounting processes scale and adapt with the business
  • Act as the finance domain expert in conversations with Systems Architects, ERP, and product teams — ensuring accounting logic is reflected in how our SAP S/4HANA and SAP FICO systems are built and integrated
  • Drive automation across the FGL domain, turning manual, fragmented processes into scalable, reliable accounting flows
  • You’ll work closely with teams across our global locations, particularly in Bulgaria and São Paulo, building strong relationships and driving collaboration across regions.
What you'll bring
  • A strong accounting foundation with genuine comfort working with large, complex datasets
  • Strong understanding of financial products — payments, banking, or lending — and how they flow through an ERP and general ledger
  • A strong risk and controls mindset — able to identify financial and operational risks, assess potential impacts, and implement controls that protect data integrity, financial accuracy and compliance
  • Experience working with SAP financial modules, including SAP S/4HANA and SAP FICO
  • Comfortable working with technology teams — you don't need to be technical, but you can translate finance requirements into something they can act on
  • A process improvement mindset — you're energised by finding better ways, not maintaining the status quo
  • Background in banking, financial services, or a high-growth fintech is preferred
  • A Master's degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus
Why you should join SumUp
  • Opportunity to work with SumUppers globally on large-scale fintech products used by millions of businesses worldwide, from our modern Sofia office. This involves an office-first set up

  • Enrolment onto our Virtual Stock Option programme: you will own a stake in SumUp's future success
  • A dedicated annual L&D budget of €2000 for your individual development, which you can use to attend conferences and/or advancing your career through further education
  • Generous time off: 25 days of paid leave, plus one extra day per year of service (up to 35), along with public holidays and special leave options
  • Peace of mind: comprehensive health and life insurance — includes dental coverage
  • Stay active: on-site yoga and a co-sponsored Multisport card offering access to hundreds of sports facilities
  • Meal support: benefit from a tax-free food voucher program plus flexibility via our Re:Benefits platform
  • Easy commute: free shuttle buses connecting directly to Joliot-Curie metro station
  • Family-friendly: new baby bonus and subsidised daycare for kids aged 9 months to 12 years
