Job summary

Corning is seeking a materials engineer to lead development of polymer materials for global applications within the Optical Communications segment. You will collaborate with global teams, evaluate cable and connector materials, and provide technical leadership in polymer science.

Strong communication and problem-solving are expected. You will participate in cross-functional teams, develop new test methods, and interface with suppliers to ensure material availability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in materials science, engineering or chemistry is required (0-2 years)
  • Master's degree is a plus (0-1 years)
  • Experience with thermoplastic polymers / polymer compounds
  • Ability to develop new test methods for material characterization
  • Ability to document work and write English reports clearly
  • Experience with FTIR, TGA, DSC or similar analytical methods
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, propose experiments and analyze data to test hypotheses
  • Apply scientific/engineering understanding to research or development problems
  • Collaborate with project teams to provide polymer materials insights
  • Interface with suppliers to test materials and resolve issues
  • Lead and support materials-focused development for short/long-term goals
  • Communicate and document results throughout product development cycles
