Job summary

Bayer seeks a Principal Crop Physiology Scientist to lead the technical strategy for crop physiology, translating insights into breeding goals and seed products using genomics, phenomics, and environmental data.

You will collaborate across field testing, data science, engineering, molecular breeding, Product Development, and Commercial teams to deliver a robust product pipeline and drive innovations in Precision Breeding, with mentorship across teams.

Qualifications

• PhD in Quantitative Genetics, Plant Breeding, Crop Physiology, Data Science, or related field with 6+ years experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional, cross-cultural teams and influence without direct reporting.
• Experience analyzing large biological data sets, including quantitative genetics and biostatistics.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to coordinate technical strategy using crop physiology to define novel seed product concepts.
• Leverage model outputs and analytics to improve quantitative traits under selection.
• Collaborate with field testing, data science, engineering, molecular breeding, Product Development, and Commercial teams.
• Ensure knowledge transfer at critical transition points along crop cycle timelines.
• Identify opportunities for new technology and process improvements.
• Lead projects with partner teams across NA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC for Precision Breeding.
• Mentor peers and develop talent in key areas.
• Support Health, Safety & Environment and company policies in daily work.
