Job summary

The Wikimedia Foundation seeks a Principal, Global Event Security and Risk Management to lead cross‑functional efforts in identifying and mitigating physical security and enterprise risks for staff, community members, and volunteers worldwide.

You will coordinate with legal, grantmaking, communications, human rights, product security, and external partners; monitor geopolitical developments; and lead emergency response planning and crisis management initiatives in a global, remote‑first

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in corporate and physical security across diverse contexts.
• Proven track record leading risk management initiatives and crisis response.
• Skilled at developing emergency response plans and communicating them to executives.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret geopolitical trends and inform strategy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Wikimedia movement organizers to assess environments and mitigations.
• Strengthen enterprise risk management policy development and execution.
• Lead risk and gap assessments, identifying high risks with subject-matter experts.
• Enhance capabilities to identify and address emerging physical security threats.
• Oversee risk assessments for community conferences and events, summarize findings for stakeholders.
• Create emergency response plans and manage implementation with stakeholders.
• Serve as on-call reviewer for emergency alerts and lead response groups.
• Stay current on geopolitical trends and best practices in physical security.
• Brief Deputy General Counsel and leaders with actionable recommendations.
• Provide crisis support to internal teams working with at-risk communities.
