Job summary

The World Bank is seeking a Disaster Risk Management Specialist to lead analytics and policy-related DRM work. The role involves coordinating hazard-and-vulnerability assessments, developing tools to quantify asset exposure, and delivering capacity building across global teams.

You will engage with regional teams, apply geospatial techniques, and contribute to policy discussions on resilient infrastructure and disaster risk reduction. Fluency in English is required.

Qualifications

• Master or PhD in Engineering (structural or relevant technical field).
• Minimum 5 years increasing responsibility in disaster risk assessments and disaster risk reduction with focus on risk analytics.
• Experience in international development and disaster risk management.
• Fluency in English; additional languages desirable (French/Spanish/Portuguese).
• Strong programming and GIS skills: Python, R, GIS software.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of knowledge products related to disaster risk management analytics and policies.
• Coordinate disaster risk assessments (hazards, exposure, vulnerabilities) and support regional TTLs.
• Develop tools and databases to quantify asset exposure to hazards.
• Lead technical engagements with clients and regional task teams for DRM solutions.
• Lead the integration of geospatial tools across KIUSD areas and contribute to project documents.
• Lead training and capacity building in risk reduction activities and ensure integration of best practices.
• Define technical requirements for DRM TA and identify experts to support activities.
• Develop analytical products related to Building Regulations for Resilience with WB institutions.
• Support clients and task teams globally in DRM solutions through studies, documentation, training and monitoring.
• Coordinate with Infrastructure VP Unit and WB to align DRM activities.
• Carry out additional tasks to support the position.
