Chart Industries, Inc. seeks a Global Director, Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) to unify safety, environmental and occupational health across manufacturing facilities, field service operations, and project sites. You will champion a proactive safety culture and drive performance and compliance worldwide.

Travel is frequent to global sites (domestic and international up to 40%). The role requires strategic leadership, regulatory expertise, and proven ability to elevate safety performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing/industrial environments.
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience managing multi-site or global EHS programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental regulations and global EHS standards.
  • Experience leading ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead global Safety, Environmental & Health strategy across all units and sites.
  • Develop global HSE objectives and KPIs aligned with corporate goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement in injury prevention, environmental performance, and workforce engagement.

The Global Director, Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) provides strategic leadership for all safety, environmental, and occupational health initiatives across Chart's global manufacturing facilities, field service operations, and project sites. What Will You Do?

Lead Chart's global Safety, Environmental & Health strategy and roadmap across all business units, manufacturing facilities, and field service operations.Champion Chart's commitment that everyone goes home safe every day by building and sustaining a proactive safety culture. Establish global HSE objectives, KPIs, and scorecards aligned with corporate goals and operational priorities. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on injury prevention, risk reduction, environmental performance, and employee engagement. Develop and maintain global safety management systems that support compliance with OSHA, EPA, local regulations, and international standards. Ensure continued compliance and certification with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other applicable management systems. Lead enterprise-wide risk assessment programs, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and critical risk management processes. Implement standardized safe work practices, procedures, and controls across all global locations. Oversee investigation of recordable incidents, lost-time incidents, near misses, environmental events, and high-potential risks. Ensure timely implementation and verification of corrective and preventive actions. Analyze safety and environmental performance trends and develop solutions to address emerging risks. Provide strategic oversight of occupational health, industrial hygiene, workers' compensation, and return-to-work programs.Lead environmental compliance programs including permitting, waste management, emissions reporting, hazardous materials management, and sustainability initiatives.Develop and execute global training strategies to ensure employees and leaders possess the knowledge and skills to work safely.Support field service and customer-site operations by ensuring robust site-specific safety plans and contractor management programs.Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, external auditors, customers, and executive leadership on SEH matters.Lead, coach, and develop regional and site-level EHS professionals to build organizational capability and succession strength.Monitor global HSE performance and provide regular reporting to executive leadership.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require ...

Frequent travel to global manufacturing facilities.Ability to work in both office and industrial manufacturing environments.Regular exposure to manufacturing operations, fabrication facilities, construction sites, and field service activities.Ability to walk manufacturing floors and construction sites for extended periods.Occasional climbing, stooping, bending, and movement through active operating environments.Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) while visiting operational facilities and customer job sites.Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.Domestic and international travel up to 40% as business needs require.

Your Experience Should Be...
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive Environmental, Health & Safety experience within manufacturing, industrial, engineered products, or field service environments.
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience managing multi‑site or global EHS programs.
  • Demonstrated success building and sustaining strong safety cultures within complex manufacturing environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental regulations, occupational health requirements, and global EHS compliance standards.
  • Experience leading ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems and certification programs.
  • Strong experience with risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action management.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic EHS initiatives that drive measurable business results.
  • Experience supporting both manufacturing operations and field service organizations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to engage all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • NEBOSH Certification
  • OSHA 500/510 or equivalent professional certifications

Manufacturing and global operational experience strongly preferred.
