Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics in San Diego seeks a senior leader to drive clinical development of an oncology asset. You will steer the integrated product strategy, coordinate milestones, and partner across functions to accelerate regulatory approvals and maximize product value.

The role requires MD with 10+ years in pharma/academic/medical research, oncology expertise, and a proven ability to manage budgets, regulatory interactions, and data-driven decision making in a matrix organization.

Qualifications

  • MD with 10+ years in pharmaceutical/academic/medical research.
  • Experience in early/late-stage product development, including regulatory filings and launches.
  • Oncology experience required.
  • Proven ability to lead data-driven strategy and strong decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Global Product Team (GPT) and Global Development Team (GDT) for an oncology asset/product.
  • Accountable for clinical development and execution of the development plan.
  • Create and deliver an integrated product strategy to drive approvals and maximize value via milestones.
  • Provide updates to the Disease Area Head on metrics, milestones, risks, and governance needs.
  • Own R&D budget delivery and manage funding savings/distributions.
  • Incorporate regulatory and statistical input into trial design; manage health authority interactions.
  • Drive short- and long-term project vision and ensure alignment across global functions.
  • Lead talent acquisition and performance management for core program and sub-teams.
  • Ensure safety decisions; optimize dose/schedule with clinical pharmacology.
  • Incorporate advisory board input into trial design.
  • Drive objective setting, prioritization, risk/issue management, and contingency planning.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Global Product Team (GPT) and Global Development Team (GDT) for a specific oncology asset/product.
  • Accountable for clinical development of the product/indication and execution of the clinical development plan.
  • Create and deliver an integrated product strategy, driving approvals and maximizing product value via milestones and decision points.
  • Provide regular updates to the Disease Area Head on program metrics, milestones, risks, and governance needs.
  • Own R&D budget delivery (at/below target) and manage funding savings/re-distributions.
  • Integrate regulatory and statistical input into clinical trial design; manage health authority interactions.
  • Drive short- and long-term project vision/strategy and ensure alignment across global functions.
  • Lead talent acquisition and performance management for core program team and sub-teams.
  • Ensure safety decisions/evaluations; optimize dose and schedule with clinical pharmacology.
  • Incorporate advisory board/steering committee input into trial design.
  • Drive objective setting, prioritization, risk/issue management, and contingency planning; foster a trust-based team environment.
Minimum Requirements:
  • MD with 10+ years relevant experience in pharmaceutical/academic/medical research.
  • Experience in early/late-stage product development, including regulatory filings (BLA/NDA; sBLAs/sNDAs) and product launches/lifecycle management (preferred).
  • Oncology experience required.
  • Proven ability to lead data-driven strategy; strong decision-making.
  • Experience with corporate partners/alliance management.
  • Ability to operate in a matrix organization; strong cross-functional leadership, communication, presentation, and mentoring.
Compensation/Benefits (as stated):
  • Base salary: $295,900–$493,100; bonus target 30%; eligible for long-term incentive.
  • Benefits include 401(k), paid time off, caregiver/parental and medical leave, and medical/dental/vision coverage.
