About the role
We are seeking an accomplished, strategic, and technically-skilled underwriting leader to play a pivotal role in supporting and optimizing Coalition’s rapidly-expanding global cyber and technology E&O insurance portfolio. Reporting directly to the Head of Cyber Portfolio Underwriting, the Global Cyber Portfolio Underwriting Director will drive consistency, profitability, and operational excellence across regions. This leader will combine deep expertise in cyber and technology risk underwriting with advanced analytical, governance, and leadership skills to strengthen the foundation of Coalition’s global cyber and technology E&O portfolio.
This is a fully remote position, with periodic travel as required for key meetings and training initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management & Performance:
- Collaborate with and support regional leadership and their teams in driving sustainable profitable growth; ensuring a resilient global insurance portfolio.
- Utilize data-driven insights and market intelligence to proactively identify and address portfolio trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- In a collaborative effort with the actuarial team and CUO, monitor portfolio-level aggregation of risk exposures across geographies and industry sectors, ensuring risk appetite alignment and prudent capacity deployment.
- Underwriting Governance & Standards:
- Develop, document, and enforce global underwriting best practices, guidelines, and authorities in collaboration with regional and functional teams.
- Implement and manage underwriting quality assurance programs, including regular audits, peer reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Technical Enablement & Automation:
- Collaborate with regional teams, CUO, Claims and other functional experts in developing and launching new and innovative risk solutions
- Partner with CUO, product, technology, and actuarial teams to identify, design, and implement automation, analytics, and digital tools that enhance underwriting quality, efficiency, and decision-making.
- Collaboration, Training & Leadership:
- Serve as a trusted advisor and escalation point for complex and non-standard underwriting referrals.
- Design, deliver, and continuously improve technical training, knowledge sharing programs, and mentorship activities to upskill underwriters globally and stay abreast of current and emerging risk issues.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and inclusion; influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive change through consensus and partnership.
- Strategic Initiatives:
- Support the Head of Cyber Portfolio Underwriting on global initiatives, strategic projects, and management reporting.
- Represent Coalition at industry forums, conferences, and with key external partners as required
- Contribute to new product development, portfolio optimization, and expansion into new markets or customer segments.
Skills and Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in underwriting Cyber, Technology E&O, and Miscellaneous Professional Liability, with proven expertise in portfolio management and assessing, structuring and pricing complex risks.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, consensus-building, and executive communication skills—including the ability to distill and present complex technical matters to senior leadership, regional teams, clients, and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills—with experience driving cross-functional initiatives and delivering on deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Robust knowledge of cyber risk landscape, threat actors, incident response, digital forensics, and the evolving regulatory environment impacting data privacy and cyber liability exposures.
- Experienced working cross functionally building consensus, and driving initiatives to conclusion.
- Experience in identifying and implementing opportunities to refine and/or automate underwriting processes
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing underwriting teams, establishing portfolio controls, and driving profitability at scale.
Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $157,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $200,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
