Job Description

The Global Custody Strategy Manager will own the strategy, commercial roadmap, pricing discipline, margin management, competitive positioning, and investment priorities for U.S. Bank’s Global Custody offering. This client- and industry-facing role serves as the dedicated commercial and strategic owner for custody, creating clear accountability for revenue growth, client profitability, modernization, and scalable growth.

The role will partner closely with the Head of Custody for Asset Managers and the Product Office (CPO) on the strategy roadmap, capability development, and investment priorities, while also working across Operations, Network Management, Technology, Risk, Strategy Development, Finance, Relationship Management, and business-line leadership to define where U.S. Bank should invest, how custody capabilities should evolve, and how the strategy should be positioned across asset managers, fund sponsors, and Corporate Trust / structured finance clients.

This role will translate client needs, market trends, service issues, and financial performance into a prioritized roadmap, investment cases, pricing framework, and growth plan.

Essential Functions:
Strategy & Commercial Ownership
  • Define and execute the Global Custody strategy in alignment with Global Investment Services’ strategic priorities and the emerging Custody Asset Management vertical.
  • Partner with CPO on the custody strategy roadmap, including prioritization of new capabilities, service enhancements, and investment cases to improve competitiveness, client experience, scalability, and profitability.
  • Establish a disciplined strategy framework covering economics, client segmentation, capability prioritization, competitive positioning, and go-to-market planning.
  • Translate demand across mutual funds, ETFs, alternatives, CLOs, structured products, and asset‑manager custody relationships into prioritized strategic opportunities.
Revenue, Margin & P&L Discipline
  • Own the custody commercial model with Finance, including revenue growth planning, margin analysis, client profitability reporting, pricing effectiveness, and financial performance routines.
  • Build revenue, margin, and client profitability dashboards to support transparent leadership decision-making.
  • Evaluate custody economics, pricing models, sub‑custodian costs, deposit economics, and investment prioritization across custody segments.
  • Develop and maintain a pricing framework and segment strategy that supports profitable growth, commercial consistency, and competitive positioning.
Client, Market & Competitive Positioning
  • Serve as the strategic subject‑matter expert for Global Custody in client, prospect, consultant, and industry discussions.
  • Develop competitive intelligence on peer custodians, service models, pricing approaches, investment trends, and emerging custody capabilities.
  • Partner with Marketing and business leadership to develop client‑facing collateral, strategic positioning, and launch materials.
  • Identify cross‑sell opportunities across custody‑adjacent businesses, including fund services, Corporate Trust / structured finance, cash, liquidity, securities lending, and related solutions.
Strategy Roadmap, Investment Prioritization & Transformation
  • Own the strategy roadmap in close partnership with the Product Office (CPO), aligning capability development and investment priorities with client needs, financial returns, operational readiness, service quality, and strategic growth objectives.
  • Partner with Technology, Operations, Transformation, Network Management, Risk, and business partners to modernize custody capabilities, improve data quality, standardize workflows, and prepare for new products or regulatory change.
  • Convert recurring service issues, inquiry themes, market pain points, and operational constraints into product roadmap priorities.
  • Develop business cases for strategic enhancements, platform investments, market expansion, automation, and new custody capabilities.
Operating Model Partnership & Governance
  • Partner with Operations, Network Management, Technology, Risk, and CAO / Business Management to align strategic decisions with service execution, operational resiliency, controls, and client‑ready delivery.
  • Provide strategic input into SLAs, KPIs, KRIs, issue tracking, executive scorecards, and operating forums so service performance and client feedback inform commercial prioritization.
  • Establish a regular product governance rhythm with Finance, Operations, Technology, Risk, Relationship Management, and business‑line leaders.
  • Ensure strategic decisions support a scalable custody platform across Asset Managers and Corporate Trust / structured finance segments.
Risk, Controls & Regulatory Alignment
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Network Management to ensure custody strategy, pricing, market expansion, and new capabilities align with custody regulations, policies, risk appetite, and controls.
  • Incorporate regulatory, market structure, settlement, tax, asset servicing, and sub‑custodian considerations into roadmap decisions.
  • Support strategy‑level risk reviews, control assessments, and remediation planning where design, pricing, service standards, or operating model gaps create risk.
Financial Management & Resource Stewardship
  • Partner with Finance and business leadership on forecasting, budgeting, investment prioritization, vendor / third‑party cost analysis, and strategy‑level financial planning.
  • Ensure strategic investments are supported by clear business cases, expected financial outcomes, operational readiness requirements, and measurable benefits.
  • Work with CAO / Business Management to align revenue, margin, investment progress, service quality, and issue themes into executive scorecards.
