Job summary

Sun Valley Academy in Glendale is seeking a School Counselor to support the academic, social, emotional and behavioral success of every scholar. You will provide comprehensive counseling services, prevent issues, and collaborate with families, teachers, and administrators.

The counselor reports to the Principal and participates in MTSS, IEP/504 meetings, crisis prevention, and data-driven program evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in school counseling or closely related field.
  • Valid AZ School Counselor PreK-12 certificate.
  • Valid AZ Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Experience in counseling within a K-8 setting.
  • Knowledge of MTSS and crisis intervention practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, small-group, and classroom counseling that supports students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the school's academic and culture goals.
  • Deliver preventative social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons and interventions that promote student success and leadership development.
  • Identify students in need of academic, behavioral, or social-emotional support and develop appropriate intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to identify barriers to learning and coordinate student supports.
  • Participate in MTSS, IEP, and 504 meetings, providing recommendations to support student achievement and well-being.
  • Conduct student assessments, monitor progress, and use data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling interventions and program.
  • Provide crisis intervention, including suicide risk assessments, threat assessments, safety planning, and follow-up support in accordance with school policies and professional standards.
  • Serve as an active member of the school's Crisis Response Team and assist during campus emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Connect students and families with school and community resources that support mental health, attendance, basic needs, and overall well-being.
  • Partner with families through consultation, communication, and problem-solving to promote positive student outcomes.

Salary Range: $48,000-55,000 per year

As the School Counselor, you will provide comprehensive counseling services that promote student well-being and academic achievement through prevention, intervention, and collaboration. You will work closely with school leadership, teachers, families, and community partners to ensure every scholar has the support needed to thrive.

The School Counselor reports to the Principal.

Program Management & Data
  • Maintain accurate counseling records and documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and school requirements.
  • Use student data to evaluate counseling interventions and program effectiveness.
  • Analyze attendance, behavior, academic, and social-emotional data to identify trends and inform decision-making.
  • Communicate program outcomes and student progress to school leadership and stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, and professional counseling standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Valid Arizona School Counselor PreK-12 Certificate.
  • Valid Arizona Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Previous experience providing counseling services in a K-8 educational setting.
  • Knowledge of MTSS, crisis intervention, student mental health, and social-emotional learning practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Arizona licensure as an LAC, LPC, LMSW, or LCSW.
  • Experience providing counseling services in a K-8 school setting.
  • Experience working in a Title I or diverse educational environment.
  • Experience implementing a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the ASCA National Model.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
