Bay Systems Consulting is seeking a Technical Assistant (Glasswash/Autoclave Technician) to support laboratory operations at the Joint Genome Institute in Berkeley, CA. The role reports to the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor and focuses on keeping the lab clean, organized, and fully functional.

The position involves routine maintenance, operating glassware washers and autoclaves, and ensuring safe handling of lab supplies. This is a 3-month contract with pay of $38 per hour plus benefits.

Qualificações

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
• Excellent communication and ability to follow written/verbal instructions.
• Comfort working with diverse research teams and varying glassware needs.
• Ability to lift/move up to 45 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Experience with glassware washers and autoclaves is preferred.
• Familiarity with basic lab procedures like media prep and sterilization.
• Knowledge of chemical safety practices and inventory protocols.

Responsabilidades

• Perform routine lab support: washing, drying, and sterilizing glassware and plasticware.
• Operate industrial washers, dryers, autoclaves, and water distillation systems.
• Coordinate dishwashing, autoclaving, media prep, and pipette-tip sterilization workflows.
• Package and sterilize pipette tips and deliver supplies to stocking locations.
• Perform weekly autoclave quality testing using standard methods.
• Monitor sharps and broken glass containers; replace as needed.
• Maintain storeroom shelves and sink supplies; keep labs stocked.
• Ensure lab areas are clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
• Assist with administrative tasks (filing, photocopying) and notify supervisor of equipment needs.
• Maintain records of tasks performed and adhere to EH&S regulations.
• Prepare basic stock solutions and buffers using standard protocols.
• Assist with waste collection, freezer defrosting, and distribution of supplies.
• Help lab managers with general organization and cleanliness of labs.
• Replenish water stations and restock safety glass and shoe covers.
