Job summary

Alfred University is seeking a Glass Studio Technician to oversee the SDS glass facilities, including glassblowing, casting, neon studio, hot shop, kilns and related equipment. You will ensure maintenance, safety compliance, and uninterrupted operations to support teaching, research, and visiting artists.

The role involves hands‑on maintenance, collaboration with faculty and SDS technical staff, and coordination with Facilities, IT, and safety teams across campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree with four years of related experience or equivalent.
• Proficiency with glass equipment including furnaces, kilns, neon and flameworking tools.
• Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Experience maintaining and repairing studio facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update preventative maintenance schedules for glass facilities.
• Manage inventory and procurement of materials and consumables.
• Train and supervise student workers and technical apprentices.
• Coordinate with facilities and SDS staff to support studio operations.
• Serve as emergency responder for furnace outages.
