Job summary

OPB is expanding its Mid-Level team and hiring two Giving Advisors to steward and retain donors. You will learn from experienced fundraising professionals and gain knowledge about portfolio management, midlevel, major, and planned giving.

As a Giving Advisor, you will manage a donor portfolio giving $1,000–$9,999, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships to support OPB and KMHD, collaborating across the organization to advance OPB’s public service mission.

Qualifications

• Three years of fundraising or equivalent experience.

We’re expanding our Mid-Level team and hiring two Giving Advisors to help steward and retain the strong community support that grew in response to last year’s federal funding cut. For each role, we are seeking someone who has strong interpersonal skills, a passion for OPB, and experience working directly with donors to secure gifts.This role offers a unique opportunity to learn from a successful and highly experienced team of fundraising professionals. You will gain in-depth knowledge about portfolio management, midlevel, major, and planned giving fundraising. Most importantly, you will help OPB’s most loyal and committed donors make an impact on the journalism, storytelling, and programs they care deeply about.

Position Summary

The Giving Advisor manages a portfolio of donors giving between $1,000 - $9,999 and is responsible for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and purposeful stewardship of relationships for optimal support of OPB and KMHD. The Giving Advisor is a member of the high-performance Philanthropy team, working closely with teammates to grow philanthropic support from donors and prospects. The Advisor also collaborates with colleagues across the organization to advance OPB’s public service mission.

Areas of Responsibility

75% Portfolio Management – Renewable Mid-Level Gifts, Campaign and Project Specific Support

• Develop relationships with a portfolio of approximately 500 Cornerstone Society and The Green Room donors and prospects to secure new and increased levels of support.
• Execute mid-level giving strategies and campaigns to advance donors’ relationships with OPB and KMHD in partnership with the Director of Philanthropy.
• Research, implement, assess, and report on effectiveness of mid-level strategies and tactics.
• Establish and achieve metrics for meaningful contacts, prospect advancement and revenue generation to meet project goals and unit goals.
• Track donor plans and interactions in Salesforce CRM.

15% Major and planned gift prospect management

• Partner with Philanthropy and Planned Giving Advisors to qualify, steward and solicit major and planned gift prospects.

10% Events and other duties

Identify and lead strategic opportunities for donor cultivation and stewardship events. Actively participate in event execution and support immediate donor follow-up as appropriate.

Working Conditions

This is a hybrid position, with the expectation that the employee will spend at least 2 days each week in an OPB office, with extensive use of a computer and telephone. Frequent work with donors may take place in virtual or in-person settings. Evening or weekend work is required to carry out events and meetings. Occasional travel is required largely within the region (Oregon and southwest Washington) to participate in and facilitate donor meetings, events and professional development training. Occasional out-of-state travel may occur for conferences. Some activities may require moving up to 40 lbs.

• Three years successful fundraising or equivalent experience with evidence of increasing responsibility.
• Successful experience in direct outreach and developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, oriented towards teamwork and collaboration.

• Technologically savvy, with fluent use of business software systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and fundraising CRMs.

Preferred Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes)

• Familiarity with mid-level giving programs and donor-centered fundraising practices.
• Experience using Salesforce or other CRM to manage fundraising portfolio.
• Conversant in complex giving methods and best practices (e.g. qualified charitable distributions from investment retirement accounts, donations from donor-advised funds, gifts of securities).
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Bilingual in English and another language, preferably one spoken in communities in the Pacific Northwest (for example, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Russian).
