Job summary

Baxter & Woodman is seeking a GIS Technician I to support a range of municipal and client projects from our Bannockburn, Chicago, Crystal Lake, or Naperville offices, IL. The role blends office GIS tasks with on-site field work, requiring strong problem-solving and teamwork.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s in GIS or related field and have experience with ArcGIS Pro/Online, GPS data collection, and map design, with travel across the Chicagoland area expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Remote Sensing or related field required.
• Professional experience with current ArcGIS Pro releases and ArcGIS Online is required.
• ±80% office-based GIS and Spatial Technology tasks; ±20% on-site field work with clients.

Responsibilities

• Report to the GIS Department Manager for work responsibilities, scheduling, and tasks.
• Perform office-based mapping tasks, map creation, data manipulation, analysis and technical problem solving in ArcGIS Pro.
• Manage ArcGIS Online Organization accounts and data layers for municipal clients.
• Develop and maintain ArcGIS Online applications such as Experience Builder, Survey123, Dashboards, and Field Maps.
• Perform troubleshooting tasks and manage geodata standards, cleanup and maintenance.
• Provide onsite work for municipal clients and field-based projects as needed.
• Provide field-based services including GPS data collection of assets, condition assessments, and more.
