Job summary

Pape-Dawson Engineers is seeking an entry-level GIS Technician I to support engineering, planning, environmental, and infrastructure projects. You will create GIS data layers, maps, tables, and reports using ESRI ArcGIS while learning industry best practices in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in GIS or related field, ESRI certification may substitute.
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Familiarity with surveys, construction plans, aerial imagery.
  • Understanding of cartographic principles and spatial data management.
  • Ability to create clear geospatial deliverables.
  • Basic programming concepts & technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and manage priorities.
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, occasional overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Create GIS data layers, maps, tables, reports, and other spatial deliverables.
  • Prepare, edit, and maintain geospatial datasets.
  • Collect, verify, organize, and manage spatial data from internal and external sources.
  • Perform basic spatial analysis and data updates.
  • Support engineering, planning, and environmental teams with mapping products.
  • Collaborate with senior GIS staff and develop GIS knowledge.
  • Contribute to a team culture focused on quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Job Description: GIS Technician I

What You'll Do


  • Create GIS data layers, maps, tables, reports, and other spatial deliverables using ESRI's ArcGIS suite and related applications.

  • Prepare, edit, and maintain geospatial datasets in accordance with project standards and quality requirements.

  • Collect, verify, organize, and manage spatial data from a variety of internal and external sources.

  • Perform basic spatial analysis and data updates using established GIS workflows and methodologies.

  • Support engineering, planning, and environmental teams by producing accurate mapping products and visualizations.

  • Collaborate with senior GIS staff while continuing to develop your technical knowledge and GIS best practices.

  • Contribute to a team culture focused on quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.


What We're Looking For


  • Associate degree in Geographic Information Systems or a related field (ESRI certification may be substituted for a degree).

  • Basic proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS software and related GIS applications.

  • Familiarity with surveys, legal descriptions, construction plans, aerial imagery, and orthophotography.

  • Understanding of cartographic principles, coordinate systems, map projections, scales, and spatial data management.

  • Ability to create clear, accurate maps and other geospatial deliverables.

  • Basic understanding of programming concepts and technical documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as project needs require.
