Job summary

Acro Service Corporation is seeking a GIS Designer / GIS Technician to create, maintain, and manage GIS data supporting utility infrastructure and engineering operations. The role collaborates with engineering, field operations, and other teams to ensure precise GIS records.

Responsibilities include updating GIS features, validating data, interpreting drawings, and supporting asset-management activities through GIS applications.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in GIS or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with GIS software, preferably Esri ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro.
• Experience with GIS data editing, mapping, and database management.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, and maps.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently as well as with engineering/field teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and revise maps, drawings, and GIS documentation from plans and field data.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, survey information, and other docs.
• Perform GIS data editing, validation, quality control, and QA.
• Research and resolve discrepancies between GIS records and field conditions.
• Support design, construction, maintenance, and asset-management activities via GIS.
• Enter and maintain information on distribution facilities, lines, poles, meters, and assets.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and field teams to verify infrastructure info.
• Utilize GIS, CAD, database, and related software to complete projects.
• Maintain documentation and ensure GIS data complies with standards.
• Support field data collection and integration into GIS systems.
• Perform other GIS and technical duties as assigned.

This role works closely with engineering, construction, field operations, and other technical teams to ensure accurate and reliable GIS records.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and update GIS features and attributes for utility infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate spatial and tabular GIS data in accordance with established standards.
• Develop and revise maps, drawings, and GIS documentation based on engineering plans, field information, and construction records.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, survey information, and other technical documentation.
• Perform GIS data editing, validation, quality control, and quality assurance.
• Research and resolve discrepancies between GIS records, engineering documentation, and field conditions.
• Support utility design, construction, maintenance, and asset-management activities through GIS applications.
• Enter and maintain information related to distribution facilities, lines, poles, transformers, meters, and other utility assets.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, field personnel, contractors, and operations teams to gather and verify infrastructure information.
• Utilize GIS, CAD, database, and related technical software to complete assigned projects.
• Maintain documentation and ensure GIS data complies with organizational standards and procedures.
• Support field data collection and integration of field information into GIS systems.
• Perform other GIS and technical duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience working with GIS software, preferably Esri ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro.
• Experience with GIS data editing, mapping, and database management.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, maps, and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with engineering and field teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with electric, gas, telecommunications, or other utility GIS.
• Experience with Esri Utility Network or related utility GIS applications.
• Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, or similar field-data collection tools.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD applications.
• Experience with SQL, Python/ArcPy, FME, or other GIS automation tools.
• Experience with GPS/GNSS data collection.
• Familiarity with utility distribution systems and infrastructure.
• Experience supporting engineering design or construction projects.

Work Environment

This position may involve a combination of office/GIS work and occasional field activities. The position requires effective communication with technical, engineering, construction, and operations personnel and the ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.
