Job description

Job Title: GIS Project Specialist

Position Summary

The GIS Project Specialist will support utility clients across the U.S. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and effectiveness of GIS data and reporting tools that support both transmission and distribution vegetation operations.

The role involves enhancing data workflows, supporting spatial analysis, improving the integration of software systems, and working cross-functionally with internal teams, contractors, and software partners. The position is remote, with a preference for candidates based in the Southern U.S., and may require occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the management, accuracy, and accessibility of geospatial data across utility programs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to improve the reliability and functionality of GIS-enabled work management systems.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of process improvements aimed at increasing automation, efficiency, and reporting capabilities.
  • Assist with GIS-related support for strategic planning, operational execution, and compliance tracking.
  • Provide input on data standards, update schedules, and methods for long-term GIS system maintenance.
  • Identify and troubleshoot GIS-related issues and support their resolution with internal stakeholders and software vendors.
  • Help implement solutions that enhance the integration between remote sensing and spatial data, reporting systems, and field operations.
  • Maintain awareness of new technologies and practices in GIS that could benefit our utility clients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience (required)
  • 4+ years of experience in GIS roles supporting utility or infrastructure projects (required)
  • Demonstrated experience supporting spatial data for vegetation management, engineering, or environmental applications
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with mapping, automation, or data visualization tools is a plus
