Anne Arundel County is seeking a full-time Systems Programmer II to support GIS programming for geospatial enterprise applications and services. The role involves designing and maintaining geospatial scripts, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring compatibility of county software and hardware.
The position expects strong SDE data modeling skills in Microsoft SQL Server Geospatial environments, plus broad knowledge of hardware, networks, and databases.
This vacancy announcement will be used to fill a full-time Systems Programmer II position in the Office of Information Technology. The work location for this position is the Riva Road Heritage Complex in Annapolis, MD.
This position is designated to support GIS programming for implementation and maintenance of geospatial enterprise applications, support of enterprise geospatial services, design and maintenance of geospatial scripts, and support of various databases.
This position requires a strong understanding of and practical experience designing and implementing SDE data models in Microsoft SQL Server SDE Geospatial environments. This position coordinates with multiple project teams to ensure that the design of the County software and hardware are compatible and work together efficiently. Work involves coordinating with Technical Services, County managers, project managers and contractors developing systems and monitoring operational effectiveness.

Employees in this classification perform their duties independently, exercise independent judgment in designing and resolving network problems, and are given wide latitude to complete work assignments. These employees receive general supervision from a Systems Analyst or higher-level administrator. The work is primarily sedentary, and performed in an office environment. However, the work does involve some walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting and bending when installing, moving, and repairing computers or peripherals. The employee may be required to lift equipment weighing fifty pounds or more. Employees may also be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. (Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. They are not intended to include all of the essential functions of all positions in the class.)
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in mathematics, public or business administration, or a related field, including or supplemented by specialized training in electronic data processing, programming, operations, and methodologies; and two (2) or more years of experience in telecommunications, computer operating systems, and database management.
Please note: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in mathematics, public or business administration, or a related field, including or supplemented by specialized training in electronic data processing, programming, operations, and methodologies, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with four (4) years of work experience in GIS programming or related experience, this is in addition to the two (2) or more years of of experience in telecommunications, computer operating systems, and database management.
Note: Normal work schedule is currently hybrid with 2 days per week in the Annapolis Office.

Pay will be based on education and direct experience, generally within fifteen percent (15%) of the base pay. Please note that the Pay Scale shown represents the full proficiency of the position, not the starting range.
