Job summary

City of Dublin, Ohio is offering a part-time GIS/Analytics internship focused on data creation, mapping, and visualization. The program provides hands-on experience in a public sector setting with opportunities to learn ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Experience Builder, and Microsoft Power Platform.

Interns will design dashboards, build data products, and produce maps and reports. On-site work is required at the City offices in Dublin, Ohio, with opportunities to grow through cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a degree/certification program in Analytics/GIS.
• Completed at least one course in analytics/GIS related discipline.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work on-location at City of Dublin, Ohio offices (no remote opportunities).

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain dashboards and mapping applications using ArcGIS Online and Experience Builder.
• Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary teams to build data products using the Microsoft Power Platform.
• Produce printed and virtual maps, dashboards, and analysis reports.
• Create and edit datasets including 3D data within the Esri ArcGIS environment.
• Perform field data collection and editing with GPS units.
• Assist in data quality testing and in customer training and troubleshooting.

Job description

Would you like to help local government make better decisions and improve community services? Do you have an interest in data, mapping and visualization?

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS)/Performance Analytics Internship program provides students of graduate and undergraduate GIS/Analytics related studies with professional experience in a public sector organization. This is part-time employment in the GIS/Analytics field as a complement to the student’s studies. Upon completion of the internship program, the student should have received adequate training and experience for an entry-level GIS/Analytics role.

Scheduling/Availability

• GIS interns may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during the school year, but may be permitted to work a full-time schedule during summer, winter and spring breaks subject to the approved budget
• The successful candidate must be available to work in-person at the City of Dublin, Ohio offices (no remote opportunities available)

Intern Pay Structure

• Undergraduate freshman: $17.00/hour
• Undergraduate sophomore: $17.50/hour
• Undergraduate junior: $18.00/hour
• Undergraduate senior: $18.50/hour
• First year graduate student: $19.50/hour
• Second year graduate student: $21.00/hour

Interns are expected to perform responsible, entry-level work involving GIS data creation and related products and services. While GIS remains the core responsibility of this position, candidates will also have opportunities to engage with Microsoft's Power Platform as the department expands its use of modern analytics and automation solutions.

Specific areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

• Design and maintain dashboards and mapping applications for customer needs using configurable GIS software (i.e. Esri ArcGIS Online, and Experience Builder). Training will be provided for these platforms, basic GIS knowledge is needed with curiosity and willingness to learn new tools.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the city to build data products and services using the Microsoft Power Platform and other data manipulation and analytic tools
• Producingprintedandvirtualproducts such as maps, data dashboards, and analysis reports
• Create and edit existing datasets including 3D data using a variety of tools in the Esri ArcGIS environment.
• Field data collection and editing using GPS units and tablets
• Assist in data quality testing
• Assist in customer training and trouble-shooting customer issues

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a degree/certification seeking program in the Analytics/GIS field, or in another field with an interest in analytics, mapping, and/or local government
• Completing of at least one (1) course in the analytics/GIS related discipline
• Possessionofavaliddriver’slicense
• Have reliable transportation and ability to work on-location at the City of Dublin, Ohio offices (no remote opportunities available)

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior GIS or other related experience (professional, volunteer, student, etc.)
• Successful candidates often have prior experience in an office environment and / or prior experience with GIS, graphic/rendering software, report writing, customer service, and/or project management
• Ideal candidates are willing to share ideas in a collaborative team environment, are eager to learn, and have the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage deadlines with minimal supervision
