Job summary

The City of Panama City is seeking a seasonal GIS Intern to assist in managing and developing the City’s geographic information system (GIS) database.

Responsibilities include maintaining spatial data, georeferencing and linking drawings to utility features, collecting GPS data in the field, generating data from multiple sources, and applying cartographic principles to maps and interactive applications. A Florida driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Coursework from an accredited college or university in GIS, Geography, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the duties of the position.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License - driving record must be acceptable to the City insurance program.

Guidelines include mapping guidelines, digital data submission guidelines, GIS workflow guides, and department and city policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

• The work consists of varied technical GIS duties. The necessity of accessing data from a variety of sources contributes to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to participate in the city's GIS development and maintenance operations.Successful performance helps ensure the accuracy of GIS information.
