Client Overview

Our client is a well-known East Coast utility company looking to add a GIS IT Specialist to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$60/hr - $65/hr

Position Overview

This role is ideal for a seasoned GIS IT Specialist with at least 10 years of hands-on experience supporting Esri-based GIS platforms, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcFM, and integrating performance optimization techniques using tools such as LoadRunner. This is a one-year contract.

Responsibilities Of The GIS IT Specialist

• Lead the design, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise GIS platforms, including ArcMap, ArcFM, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Pro.
• Develop and execute performance test scripts using LoadRunner in Citrix environments to simulate real-world usage and identify system constraints.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, DBAs, and Infrastructure Engineers, to deliver reliable, high-performing GIS applications.
• Tune system performance across layers (application, database, server) and troubleshoot complex GIS issues impacting end-user experience.
• Drive the development of custom GIS solutions and tools to support utility workflows and improve operational efficiency.
• Analyze performance metrics, system logs, and test results to generate actionable insights and recommendations.
• Manage upgrades, patches, and enhancements to GIS software and servers, ensuring minimal impact to operations.
• Mentor junior team members and help establish best practices in system monitoring, testing, and GIS solution delivery.
• Document solutions, testing methodologies, outage recovery plans, and support procedures.
  
  

Required Experience/Skills for the GIS IT Specialist:

• 10+ years of experience in GIS system support and engineering, preferably in utility (electric/gas/water) environments.
• Deep expertise in ArcFM, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcMap, and related Esri technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience with LoadRunner or equivalent performance testing tools.
• Solid understanding of performance tuning techniques for GIS platforms and databases (SQL Server, Oracle).
• Proven ability to simulate large user bases, analyze system usage, and create solutions to ensure optimal performance.
• Proficient in scripting languages such as Python (ArcPy) for automation and testing.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical topics to stakeholders.
• Experience working with Agile teams and managing workload with minimal supervision.
  
  

Preferred Experience/Skills for the GIS IT Specialist:

• A/B Testing.
• Administration and troubleshooting of Oracle and MySQL.
• Analysis for Office.

Education Requirements:
