Job summary

The City of Rowlett, TX is seeking an entry-level, part-time GIS assistant to support the GIS Division.

This role focuses on data entry, data quality, map creation, and daily requests, with potential field work using GPS equipment. Candidates are students with coursework in GIS and a valid driver's license, able to work in a team in a climate-controlled office environment.

Qualifications

• Current master’s level or undergraduate student with at least one year of relevant coursework and applied experience.
• Self-motivated problem solver capable of working as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license required. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or designee within two working days.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Edit and manage GIS data layers in a multiuser geodatabase.
• Add/Correct the data tabular information
• Create maps, charts, and diagrams for the requests.
• Review, audit, and clean up GIS data for accuracy.
• Digitize/Collect other data as needed for city infrastructure data.
• Other related duties as assigned
• Possibility of field work with GPS equipment

Hourly Rate: $19.31 Max

Part-time (20 hours per max)

This is an entry-level technical, part-time position. An individual in this position will be responsible for assisting the GIS Division with daily requests, data entry, review, and data collection.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop/ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

• Valid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.

Work is primarily performed in climate-controlled office environment. Physical demands are sedentary in nature with prolonged sitting. Work causes fatigue of eyes, fingers or other facilities because of fairly continuous use of motor senses.
