Job summary

City of Panama City Beach is seeking a GIS Technician to maintain spatial data, perform data entry and editing, and ensure data quality in municipal GIS systems. You will incorporate as-builts, collect GPS data in the field, and review field observations to keep utility features up to date.

The role requires coursework in GIS or related field, knowledge of GIS concepts, and strong map-making skills. Valid Florida driver’s license is required. This is an on-site city position.

Qualifications

• Coursework from an accredited college or university in GIS, Geography, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the duties of the position.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License - driving record must be acceptable to the City insurance program.

Guidelines include mapping guidelines, digital data submission guidelines, GIS workflow guides, and department and city policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

• The work consists of varied technical GIS duties. The necessity of accessing data from a variety of sources contributes to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to participate in the city's GIS development and maintenance operations. Successful performance helps ensure the accuracy of GIS information.
