Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a GIS Field Technician to join a major engineering client. The role centers on in-field GIS data collection, design input, and extensive field travel within Virginia, including occasional overnight trips.

Proficiency with ArcGIS and related software is required, plus strong communication abilities. The position offers hands-on experience in electric distribution, with 80–90% fieldwork and expenses covered when traveling.

Qualifications

• Engineering Tech. Degree or Bachelor's degree in GIS, scientific or equivalent discipline.
• Esri's ArcGIS suite or other GIS software.
• Willingness to travel Mon-Thu 2-3 weeks per month; travel expenses covered.
• Comfort working outdoors 90% of the time.
• Strong communicator and eager to grow with the client.
• In-field experience and utilities experience.
• Experience with Excel, JETS, and Work Management Software.

Responsibilities

• Work as member of Joint USE/Fiber Make Ready Team to do in-field GIS data collection and provide design suggestions.
• Field environment will be 80% - 90% in-field.
• Use a hasting stick to measure Joint Use attachment heights & utility-owned distribution lines/attachments.
• Field data will be collected using Leidos proprietary software to update utilities GIS and make design determinations.
• Travel to client region in Virginia with possible overnight stays.
