Job summary

The Ohio State University Geography Department invites applications for an assistant professor of teaching to support the MGIST program, online and in-person. This is a five-year non-tenure track appointment with renewal based on performance and merit-based pay increases.

The successful candidate will design and deliver rigorous online courses, contribute to curriculum and assessment, mentor students, and participate in departmental service. Autumn 2027 start preferred, Spring 2027 possible.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Geographic Information Science (GIS), Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Geosciences, Environmental Science, or closely related field by start date.
• Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.
• Strong proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to student success, engagement, and support.

Responsibilities

• Teach 7–8 courses per academic year.
• Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment for GIS.
• Support recruitment and student mentoring in the MGIST program.
• Serve on department committees and undertake other service activities.
