Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in GIS, CS, Geography, or related field.
• Coursework or certifications in GIS and programming are advantageous.
• 5+ years of equivalent work experience may substitute for formal education.
• Minimum 2 years experience in GIS development or related field.
• Experience using ESRI software including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Basic understanding of programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
• Experience using FME for ETL workflows and data transformation.
• Exposure to spatial databases and data modeling is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The GIS Developer I is an entry to mid-level position focused on supporting the development, customization, and maintenance of Geographic Information System (GIS) applications and tools. This role involves working with ESRI technologies and programming languages such as Python and JavaScript to build and enhance geospatial solutions. The GIS Developer I collaborates with senior developers and GIS analysts to deliver high-quality geospatial products tailored to business needs.

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to

• Assist in developing and maintaining GIS applications using ESRI's ArcGIS platform and related technologies.
• Write, test, and debug code in languages such as Python and JavaScript to support GIS functionalities.
• Design, develop, and maintain automated data workflows using FME to support spatial and non-spatial data integration, transformation, and quality assurance across GIS platforms.
• Participate in the design and implementation of spatial databases and data models.
• Collaborate with team members to integrate GIS solutions with other enterprise systems.
• Support the creation of interactive maps, dashboards, and other geospatial visualizations.
• Contribute to the documentation of development processes, workflows, and technical specifications.
• Stay informed about emerging GIS technologies and best practices to enhance skill sets and project outcomes.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field.
• Relevant coursework or certifications in GIS and programming are both advantageous and acceptable in place of formal education.
• Minimum 5 years of equivalent work experience may substitute for formal education.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in GIS development or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years experience using ESRI software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Basic understanding of programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
• Experience using FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) for automating spatial and non-spatial data transformations, building ETL workflows, and integrating disparate data sources.
• Exposure to spatial databases and data modeling concepts is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
